Educational, community and musical links between West Africa and the U.K.
About us

Afrikaya’s vision is to raise enough funds to build and equip a nursery school in The Gambia. This vision began in 2006, when Geoff and Di Miles visited the area and met an inspirational man named Kebba Jaina.

Kebba wanted to create a school to help his poverty stricken community. Their plight moved Geoff and Di so much that they set up Afrikaya, in an effort to help raise funds to help the children of The Gambia by supporting them through education, by building a school. Tragically, Kebba died suddenly in the spring of 2008, but his dream lives on.

Our aim is to give hope to these children and their families and to give a community the chance to take control of their lives and end their poverty through education. We want to make a difference and help create a future for the children and their families.

Afrikaya has full charitable status, registered with The Charity Commissioners in the UK.  Our
trustees are Geoff Miles (Chair), Di Miles (Secretary), Kathryn Creed, Pauline McCrann,  Sanjeen Payne-Kumar (Business Development), Tracey Roberts (Treasurer), Roz Sylvester, Helen Payne-Kumar (Fund Raising Organiser)
