Educational, community and musical links between West Africa and the U.K.
What are we doing?

Afrikaya’s first project is to raise enough funds to buy land and build a school in a socially deprived area in The Gambia so that all the children in the school's community can receive a quality education by day and their parents can take classes of their choice by night to equip them with the skills for a better future.

Afrikaya is a registered charity regulated by the Charity Comissioners.

Based in Marlborough, Wiltshire, Afrikaya is run completely by enthusiastic volunteers resulting in all money raised going directly to fund this project.

THIS PROJECT HAS SIX PHASES:

  1. BUY LAND
In February 2009 a group went out to look at the viability of buying land on which to build a school.  Since then our fund raising efforts have now raised enough money to purchase land, we are currently sourcing an appropriate plot to purchase for the school

  2. BUILD THE SCHOOL
It is intended that where possible, the school will be built using local materials and labour provided by the adults in the community

  3. EQUIP THE SCHOOL
Supply all the necessary staff, books, stationery, desks and other essential facilities

  4. TRAINING
Provide essential training for teaching staff.

  5. ADMINISTRATOR
Appoint an administrator in The Gambia.

  6. MAINTAIN & RUN the school.

Smiles are full of joy and hope,
help them achieve their dreams and
give them a better future.
