THIS PROJECT HAS SIX PHASES:
1. BUY LAND
Complete: We have now purchased a viable piece of land on which to build the Afrikaya school. We have obtained Planning Permission and Certificate of Occupancy from the local government offices.
2. APPOINT ADMINISTRATOR
Complete: Administrator appointed. He is currently working alongside the volunteers in the neighbourhood, overseeing the building and managing the finances in The Gambia.
3. BUILD THE SCHOOL
Plans have been drawn up by Jack Munro and Yashin Kemel, student architects (currently taking their masters degree). Jack and Yashin are donating their time and expertise.
It is intended that where possible, the school will be built using local materials and eco-friendly resources with labour provided by the adults in the neighbourhood. We have appointed a site manager who is donating his time for free. Compressed earth bricks are being made as of August 2011.
4. EQUIP THE SCHOOL
Supply all the necessary staff, books, stationery, desks and other essential facilities
5. TRAINING
Provide essential training for teaching staff.
6. MAINTAIN & RUN THE SCHOOL

Smiles are full of joy and hope,
help them achieve their dreams and
give them a better future.
