The Gambia is traditionally very tolerant of all religious creeds and beliefs and while the country is predominantly Muslim, it is essentially a secular country and it prides itself on its broad-minded acceptance of all faiths. So Christmas is celebrated in The Gambia. Gambians love to party!!
Here are some of the photos and video from celebrations at the Afrikaya Nursery School. First of all there are photos of gifts of sacks of rice donated to some of the families of sponsored children. These are followed by some videos taken at the children’s Christmas party on the last day of term.
The children eating their meal at the end of term Christmas party. The meal was Ebbeh, a Gambian version of Gumbo, a stew thickened with cassava and garnished with smoked fish. Also the children had crackers, pop corn and wonjo juice.
